Downtown Adventure

Day 3/10

Happy Easter (again)!

We had a change of plans after eating breakfast yesterday. We decided to take the train downtown on Saturday instead of Sunday. Jennifer and her mother along with Amy and her father decided that they really wanted to go too since none of us of our children here yet. It is really neat to experience the train again. We saw a couple women selling things on the train, many intoxicated individuals, and people jumping the train to avoid the ticket checker. Many of you may remember on our first trip on the train we took a picture of an adorable little Russian girl and then a few minutes later her mother was ‘disciplining’ her in a way that was too harsh in our opinion. We were sharing that story yesterday on the way home when we heard a little girl cry behind us. Justin and I turn around and to our surprise it was the same adorable little girl! Within about 1 minute of her crying her mom ‘disciplined’ her again and the rest of the group experienced what we had shared the last time. Thankfully it happened only one time and not over and over as it did on the first trip. And the mom rocked and hugged her for awhile, but we are still just really bothered by the situation and the irony of witnessing it again. Just bothersome!

On a happier note when we got downtown we walked to their central square where we went in December. Much to our surprise instead of being a huge open space there was a market set up. We got some great pictures and had tons of fun people watching. After we got back we hung out with the True family for awhile. I stayed up way late last night. I think I wasn’t in bed until like 8:40!!!

Here is Justin and I overlooking the bay and part of the Russian fleet (I think).

Here are a couple of pictures of the market.

Here is Justin shopping for hats for Madison.

This is a small version of an Easter cake. They make these cakes which actually taste more like a bread for Easter. Many people will take the cake to church to be blessed and then eat it today to celebrate.

Looks like a fun trip! It's great to have people there to help pass the time. Strange about seeing that same little girl again. I would be bothered by that too.
